The 20 Most popular Bike Brands Sold in the Us

Well, this is of course a controversial, complex and enduringly evolving topic. There are so many bicycle manufacturers, bicycle types and popular brand names sold in the Us, that it can be difficult to find a ample overview and to sort it all out.

The top 20 most popular bike brand listing that I've compiled here is not based on the estimate of bikes sold alone or on the ability or perceived ability of the bicycles. Most of the bike manufacturers listed here also sell different bike types (road, mountain, hybrid, etc.) and the list below is not broken down by bike type or category.

This listing is intended to be a guide as to what bike brands are currently the most popular in the Usa, at the time of this writing (since bike brands come and go and the sales of assorted bike types rise and fall).

Some of the popular bike brands listed here can only be purchased at specialty bike shops or independent dealers. Although this marketing technique makes these brands harder to find, in some cases this it improves the perceived ability of the bikes over brands that are distributed to the mass store or that can be of course found at sporting goods stores or even online.

I have included the bike types or bike categories that each maker sells under the brand names listed. The bike type descriptions were, in most cases, taken directly from each bike manufacturers website in order to not only let you know what kind of bikes they make but also how the firm perceives the bike types that they make and how they store them to you.

ancient German Bicycles

Germans can be credited with inventing one of the precursors to the bicycle. The German Baron Karl Drais von Sauerbronn invented the Laufmaschin, which translated to English means the "running machine." This invention looked like a bicycle without pedals and gears. Kind of like an adult sized push car with two wheels instead of four. This invention was displayed in Paris during April of 1818.

The Germans continued to express their interest and fascination in the development of bicycles, and the bicycle became an prominent part of their 20th century warfare. One of the first lawful bicycles artificial by the Germans was the Elite-Diamant. This bike was created back in 1885 by the Elite brilliant Werks. This firm not only artificial bikes, but they also advanced motorcycles.

Another early German bicycle constructor was Kalkhoff. This firm started in 1919. They advanced several 10-speed style bicycles during their early history. Today this firm is still producing bikes, however, they have extensive their inventory to include 10 speeds, touring bikes, kids' bikes and mountain bikes.

When you are looking for an old German bicycle to invest in you want to make sure you get the bike's back story. For example, many bikes were stolen by the Germans during World War Ii as they retreated. Bicycles were also used by the Germans during this war for delivering messages and for relaying troops orders. If you can get written stories about the bike, photographs of the bike being used, or any other supporting information about the old German bike that you want to buy, then you will growth the value of your bike and growth the chances that you will be able to sell the bike later on for a handsome profit.
